CURRICULUM VITAE: LITZY KATZ, DIRECTOR.
Litzy, as well as her husband Ephraim, are both graduates of the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance (the Hebrew University) in Jerusalem, Israel. They arrived in South Africa in 1984.
Litzy’s theatrical talents, as director and choreographer extend to shows such as Oliver, Cinderella, Aladdin, The Pied Piper, Heidi, Tom Sawyer, The Sleeping Beauty, Songs and Tales from Africa and many more. She has also directed numerous showcases for various commercial theatres in Gauteng, from Johannesburg to Pretoria to the Royal Hall of Sun City.
She has also choreographed numerous cabaret shows, such as “Make Them Laugh” with Gordon Mulholland.
As a choreographer, she has been responsible for a section of the Star Tonight Awards and the 16th of June Commemoration events at the Civic Theatre in 1993. In addition she has choreographed many youth musical extravaganzas such as, “Let Us Entertain You” for Radio 702, TV stations and Child Welfare.
In 1995 Litzy was invited to Sydney, Australia, to direct an educational theatre production. Locally, she has directed the launch of the Nedbank Arts and Culture Trust as well as a number of TV commercials.
With her passionate love for the theatre and following her extensive and impressive career in the performing arts, Litzy has decided that the time has come to open her own theatre company and in 1995 the On Cue Theatre was born. With the specific mission of bringing highly educational and entertaining theatrical productions reaching all audiences regardless of age, gender, culture or social standing.
Over the last twenty three years the On Cue Theatre, under Litzy’s direction has put on highly acclaimed performances, as both the Director and the Producer of the On Cue Theatre. Litzy has been highly applauded for her outstanding contribution to the community. On Cue Theatre’s productions have received critical acclaim for outstanding performances by highly respected performing arts critics.
The talent pool that Litzy draws from for her productions also comes highly recommended and consists of well-established professional performers on stage and on screen.
It is to be noted that, apart from being the Director, Choreographer and Producer of the On Cue Theatre, Litzy also writes her own original scripts for the Theatre, together with her assistant Kevin Theron.
The repertoire of the On Cue Theatre is wide, ranging from cabaret shows, comedies, children’s classics to corporate theatre. They also stages musicals, under the musical directorship of Litzy’s husband, Major Ephraim Katz, retired Senior Director of Music of the SANDF.
Litzy recognizes the fact that the success of the On Cue Theatre lies first and foremost with the professional, devoted and outstanding people and teams that she has been privileged to work with through the years. She wishes to pay tribute and to express her sincere gratitude and appreciation to each and every cast member, who often managed during the course of each and every performance under the most strenuous conditions to run on and off stage with fifteen wig changes, twenty shoe changes and thirty different costumes and still make it back on the stage “on cue” with the broadest of smiles.
One of Litzy’s greatest ambitions is to write a book one day, about her work and experience in South Africa’s theatrical scene, titled, “ I Had A Theatre In Africa”…..
